Camp Ocean Pines Camper Spotlight: COSMO

Here at Camp Ocean Pines we take pride in how awesome and unique our campers are! We have campers who love to express themselves, campers who take new challenges and campers who stand up for what they believe in! It is always exciting to hear what they are doing and how they are making the world a better place. Throughout this fall, we are going to take some time to recognize some of our campers being AWESOME out in their community.

This month we would like to feature camper Cosmo! Cosmo attended camp for the first time this summer and was in our youngest boy cabin with Squirrel. Cosmo is extremely genuine to himself and lives life to the fullest. Recently, Cosmo participated in the Big Sur Fashion show!

The Big Sur fashion show is an annual event located near Carmel, CA that takes place in early September. Anyone can participate whether they are a model, designer or just as an audience member! The organization’s website describes it as “a symbol of our celebration and freedom. It is here that every year we come together to support each other and celebrate our growth and survival through elegance, fierce beauty, invention and raw courage.”

We took some time to ask Cosmo a few questions to share with everybody. Special thanks to the extra help from Cosmo’s mom, Sara.

What inspired you to be a part of the Big Sur fashion show?
I heard about it because my mom already had me {go} twice, once in her belly and once on my mom's back. I never did it myself until this year! When I first got in they said it was “Oh the Places You'll Go”. Then I realized I had so much art from preschool kindergarten and first grade so I thought, let's tape it all together and it will be so shiny!

How long did it take you to design your outfit? Was there a theme?
Kind of spread out pretty far but I would say like 3 weeks. Yes, it was “Oh the Places You'll Go” by Dr. Seuss and you have to make your costume out of anything besides fabric.

How did it feel to be in front of a big crowd?
I was a bit nervous and it was kind of fun at the same time but it was a bit nervous-y, and I was worried if they would laugh at me if my headpiece covered my eyes. (Sara asked, Did they laugh?) No, I just went really fast and put it out of my eyes.

Would you do it again?
Maybe. I don't know. It was a bit terrifying. I might want to do it again next year. (Sara asked, Didn't feel good after the show?) Yes and my parents were there when I was done and they gave me a big hug and my dad let me sit in the front seat.

We want to give an extra BIG congratulations to Cosmo for being creative and courageous! We hope that he continues being awesome and we can’t wait to see what he continues to do. Maybe one day we will have a Camp Ocean Pines fashion show!

Do you know a camper that is doing something out in their community? Send them our way! E-mail and we would love to feature them on our blog!
