Why Camp Ocean Pines?

Camp Ocean Pines is a dream for parents and campers alike. Our staff is trained to provide your camper with a lifetime of unforgettable summer memories.

Camp Ocean Pines offers a flexible schedule that allows each camper a daily choice of activities, from arts and crafts and hiking to singing and acting and swimming. The bonds made by a week-long camp experience will not long be forgotten. At our camp your child will develop confidence, team building, and leadership skills while creating memories that will last for years to come.

The Camp Ocean Pines Experience: Camp by the Ocean

Cambria, California, also known as “Cambria, Pines by the sea,” is a seaside village located equidistantly between Los Angeles and San Francisco. With such a scenic and natural environment, Cambria has a history of providing excellent summer camps. Campers will have the opportunity to explore the unspoiled and naturally beautiful beaches, as well as discover the ocean life in the accompanying tide pools of California’s Central Coast.

Living among nature for one week is the perfect adventure for students ages 7-15. Our ACA accredited program ensures that our camp staffers offer friendship, guidance, and instruction based on their chosen field of expertise, whether that means teaching a glass melting class, taking the campers kayaking, or leading a mellow campout underneath the stars.

If you have older teen campers interested in the natural beauty and potential for fun Camp Ocean Pines possesses, we now offer wilderness backpacking trips for older teen campers. These trips, led by our motivated and well trained staff, lead campers on adventures of a lifetime, instilling confidence, independence, and strong leadership skills.

Your children will be supervised by counselors assigned to their cabin. Each cabin has a bathroom inside and sleeps eight campers and two counselors. Excellent meals are served in the historic ocean-view dining lodge.

There’s nothing more inherently adventurous than joining a group of similarly aged campers and embarking on a hike or campout. Campouts Camp Ocean Pines style mean visiting the best camping locations in the state of California so your camper can star gaze and road trip with the best of them. We travel to locations such as Big Sur to take in the wonder of pristine California beaches and explore the mountains, hiking trails and picturesque waterfalls.

Transportation Info for Parents

Just as our ACA accreditation assures that your camper will be treated with the best of care, our transportation practices assure that your child will also always drive in safety. These safety measures are important to us because camp is not just a week of sedentary activities; Camp Ocean Pines takes your kids all over the place. From day one, the camp director or designated senior staff member will pick up campers at the airport in one of the camp cars, complying with airport policy regarding pick-up and drop-off of unaccompanied minors.

We know that communication between campers and parents is essential toward your well-being, so any off-site travel will be accompanied by email or phone conversations between campers or counselors and parents. We use rented 15 passenger vans or chartered commercial buses to transport campers, and only employ drivers qualified with the appropriate licenses to operate these cans and buses.

Our vehicles are kept in good mechanical condition and given a daily safety inspection.  Campers are required to wear seatbelts, remain seated, keep hands inside the windows, and behave appropriately so as not to distract the driver.  All parents are given a weekly itinerary and pick up/drop off details.

If there are any significant changes that affect transportation, our office personnel will call you to communicate those changes. If the changes are major, Camp Ocean Pines uses “Call-Em-All,” an automated calling service that sends instant bulk phone messages to the list of camper parents.  This will address any major changes in arrival time or major changes to the session, like if there is a fire or other emergency.

Rest assured that our office keeps emergency contact numbers as well as health forms.  A copy of those forms goes on every off-site trip with the Trip Leader, to ensure available communication in any situation.  Our great office personnel are the liaison between camp staff and parents regarding transportation changes, accidents, or delays.

We are ACA Accredited

Camp Ocean Pines is accredited by the American Camp Association, and we maintain a 1:4 staff-to-camper ratio to ensure every camper receives the attention he or she deserves.  Leadership is provided by Scott Hicok, the Summer Camp Director.  Our Summer Camp staff is experienced, highly-trained, and a fun and caring group!
